Fairfax softballLittle league and Pony league softballThe Fairfax Girls Little League (3rd– 5th grade) and Pony League (6th– 8thgrade) teams belong to the Iowa Valley Softball League (the player’s grade is determined by the grade they are in at the beginning of the season, IE: in 4th grade in May 2025, would be considered a 4th grader for the 2025 season). The league is made up of teams from the surroundingcommunitiesofAtkins,Blairstown,Fairfax,Keystone,Newhall,Norway,Van Horne, and Walford. Fairfax has been a member of the league since 2008. The Fairfax LL and PL teams play their home games at the Fairfax Regional Sports and Park Complex (the Complex) at 625 Linn St in Fairfax and play away games at the individual town’s sites. Practice for these teams begins in early April, weather permitting. The season kicks off with a week of “pre-season” games May 20 – 23, 2025. The actual game day/ time is TBD. The regular season starts on Tuesday, May 27, 2024, and concludes with a post-season tournament beginning Sunday, June 29, and going through Thursday, July 3, 2025. The location and game day/ time are TBD. A league All-Star game will be held in Blairstown after the post-season tournament. More information on the All-Star game will be announced at a later date. Practices and games are scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays. The coaches schedule practice timesand areusuallyafterworkduring the week, but can include weedepending on schedules. A league coaches meeting will be at Newhall City Hall, 11 2nd Ave on April 14 at 6:00 PM. Thereisa$65.00registrationfeeforallparticipants. FYS believes every child should have the opportunity to play youth sports and offers a scholarship program for families if the registration fee poses a hardship. Scholarships are provided through local donations from participants like you. Every dollar helps. Tournament Softball FYS offers a tournament softball program for girls in the 10U age through 18U age brackets. This league is for girls who want additional time with the coaches, and get additional practice and game time. The players try out for positions on the teams and based on ability and age may be selected to a team. Since there is a tryout, not all girls will make the team. Teams practice starting in August twice per week and play in three or four tournaments in the fall and two or three tournaments in the spring. Girls playing on the tournament softball team are encouraged to play on one of Fairfax’s rec teams (Little League or Pony League) There is a $100.00 registration fee for all participants.
